Its story is one of the main stories of Kraków itself. A church was founded there in the early 13th century, then destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The Gothic basilica you see now began rising in the late 13th century on the older foundations and was consecrated around 1320. Over the centuries it was expanded and remodeled, but it remains one of Kraków’s great Gothic landmarks.
